Almost everyone has some extra cushion under their chin, but a true double chin can strikingly alter your appearance and affect your self-esteem. Instead of shopping for scarves and thick turtlenecks, you can get Kybella® injections that melt away your double chin. To learn more about Kybella and find out if you’re a candidate, call David Capaldi, MD, at Diamante Medical Skin Care in Jupiter, Florida, or book your appointment online today.
Kybella Q & A
What is Kybella?
Kybella is an injectable drug that reduces the fat below your double chin. It’s the only drug of its kind and is much safer than surgeries with similar results like liposuction. With just 2-4 Kybella treatments, your double chin permanently shrinks significantly without the need for recovery time.
How does Kybella work?
Kybella’s active ingredient is a synthetic form of a type of acid that your body already produces and uses to absorb and digest fat in your stomach. When injected, the acid destroys your fat cells so they can’t store fat anymore.
At your appointment, Dr. Capaldi may use a numbing cream or an ice pack to minimize discomfort. Then, he injects your chin area 20-50 times. You probably won’t notice a difference immediately because your body metabolizes the destroyed fat cells over the course of several weeks. If Dr. Capaldi thinks you need multiple sessions to reach your goal, he helps you make a plan to book them at least a month apart.
Am I a candidate for Kybella?
Dr. Capaldi asks you many questions about your medical history and your expectations for treatment during your initial consultation to decide if you’re a candidate for Kybella. Good candidates:
- Are 18 or older
- Eat healthily and exercise
- Have moderate or severe double chin fat
- Aren’t planning on getting facial surgery
- Don’t have any difficulty swallowing
- Aren’t pregnant or nursing
- Have no infections near the injection area
Dr. Capaldi makes sure you have realistic expectations for your treatment. If Kybella is right for you, he creates your treatment plan, which includes multiple Kybella injection appointments.
What are the risks of Kybella?
Since Kybella doesn’t involve surgery, few side effects are associated with the injections. In the week or two following your injections, you might experience:
- Muscle weakness
These side effects are some of the most common, but there are other very rare complications associated with the procedure. Dr. Capaldi gives you a full list of the potential complications before you sign off on the procedure.
The fat under your chin is particularly difficult to lose on your own, but Kybella injections can give you the contoured jawline that you want. To book your consultation, call Diamante Medical Skin Care or book your appointment online today.
